Hatbox [realia]. 1889-1920

Brown leather hatbox that dates from 1889-1920 is oval shaped with a concave lid, which is attached with a leather strap. There is a leather handle on the top of the lid. Two straps on the box buckle to the lid. In the center front of the lid there is a gold-colored metal latch that attaches at the front of the box. Below the latch on the box in gold lettering is "W.G.H." for Warren G. Harding. The interior of the box is lined with red silk. The box is shaped to fit a top hat. Inside there are two leather straps, one at the base and one on the lid. A key attached to a piece of white string rests inside the box. There are four brass feet on the bottom of the box. "83" is stamped into the leather.
